Would you like to read through The Bible in 2013?

Hi Beloveds...

With the new year approaching and resolutions on the way, I thought this was a great article from Justin Taylor at Between Two Worlds.

I think it's most important to get out of The Word what God has for us.  Explore, study, and go where He takes us.  Even if this means spending days, weeks, or months reading and researching the same scripture.

With that being said, at 10-15 minutes a day and countless mediums at our disposal, I believe it's possible to do this and still get through the Bible in a year.

Plus, for those who need a little structure, reading plans like this can be just what the doctor ordered to stay in the Word!

I hope you find it helpful.  Be blessed!

The Christmas Story In Scripture

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. For nothing will be impossible with God." And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:26-38 NASB)

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:18-21 NASB)

Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke 2:1-7 NASB)

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:1-3, 9-11 NASB)

In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased." (Luke 2:8-14 NASB)

O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Hi Beloveds,

One of my favorite Christmas carols has always been "O Come, O Come Emmanuel". When I listen to it I'm reminded of all Israel has been through and God's unending love for her. It's beautiful!

2012 has been a particularly difficult year for Israel.  November saw Hamas militants in Gaza fire hundreds of rockets into her boarders.  Among the targets, for the first time in decades, were Israel's two most populated cities... Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.  Were it not for the grace of God and Iron Domes the damage could have been exponentially worse.

My heart cries for her.  I believe author of "O Come Emmanuel" felt the same way.

A funny thing happened this year though when I took time to actually study the lyrics.  I realized the author was most likely not Jewish but Christian.  I guess I'd just never thought about it before.  In an attempt to confirm my suspicions I did a little research.  To my surprise I found an article that picked up on some of the same things I was seeing, though I don't agree with everything in it.

To me the idea of a Christian "empathizing" with Israel makes the song even more attractive.

Here is a great version from Selah...

If you're a classical music fan this version is amazing!!!!

The Bible is clear when it comes to Israel...

Now the Lord said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
~Genesis 12:1-3(NASB)

Please take time to bless her this Christmas!

Break Every Chain

There is power in the name of Jesus!

I love this song!  So simple, yet so powerful!

We all have those things which attempt to bind us.  For some it's addiction.  For others it's a past that haunts them.  Decisions made by us...  Decisions made by someone else that have effected us.  Physical giftings or lack there of.

Chains come in all different shapes, sizes, and strengths.

These chains are often accompanied by emotions...  Pain. Fear. Condemnation.  Regret.

The very picture of a chain brings thoughts of captivity, and I know this...  Jesus came to set the captive free.  We are His and His alone.  To be captive is to allow someone or something else to have us.  If you concede we serve a God and Savior Who is jealously in love with us then you know He will battle for us incessantly.

Let Him set you free!
